In order to transport your horse out of state, attend horse related events, or move your horse to a new boarding facility, you may need a health certificate for your horse. If you have not already done so, please call our office to set up an appointment for a health certificate exam. These equine health certificates are valid for 30 days after the date of the exam. Current pictures or an accurate drawing of all markings and brands on the horse is required. A negative Coggins test result is also mandatory.

A Coggins test screens the horse’s blood for antibodies against the Equine Infectious Anemia virus. Some horse owners know this disease as “Swamp Fever,” since it is often transmitted by biting insects such as flies and mosquitoes. The Coggins test is valid for 6 – 12 months depending on your state of destination. If you need a Coggins test for your horse, please call our office 7-10 days prior to departure to set up an appointment for the doctor to take a blood sample.
